Well, here ii is.  If Gore had held his ground, then what would have happened.  Lance deHaven-Smith lays the whole problem on partisan elites struggling for power for power’s sake.  Where does that leave the rest of us–stranded in the middle?  But the middle is getting smaller all the time like a river island in a mother of a storm.  The water keeps rising and there is no place to turn for help.  This is a prescription for revolution and I don’t mean that in a good way, in a clean every twenty years Jeffersonian, bloodless, philosphical way.  Desperate ends drive the means.  I am very worried.
